I saw the idea to make season rice with seaweed for my son while we were at the toddler’s class. There are many Japanese parents with kids in the class and one particular toddler who has the nanny with her for the class always have the rice with seaweed for snack. She enjoys eating that so much that I’ve just asked her nanny how to make it. Her nanny said is very easy, just use the baby’s rice seasoning and mix with the cooked rice and then wrap with the seaweed.
I have always seen rice seasoning in the Japanese market but not seen one particular for baby/kids. This afternoon I didn’t have anything at home for my son to eat so I had to go out to buy something and I thought of making this rice with seaweed. I went to Nijiya and saw they have the Hello Kitty Rice Seasoning Mix for Baby/Kids (no MSG) for $3.49 (comes with 10 small packs). This is a product of Japan. That’s why is expensive. There are actually two different types, one is this vegetables and the other pack is with fish (I don’t read Japanese but I see different fishes printed on the pack). However, I didn’t buy it there because I wanted to check out the price at Marukai.
Drove to Marukai and saw the same package was selling there for only $1.98 regular price. I bought it and a pack of seaweed. Came home, cooked some Japanese rice and when is cooked, I mixed some vinegar, sugar and salt to the rice. Then I added a pack of this. Wrap around some seaweed and gave to my son. Well, no doubt, it taste good (I tried) and he likes it.
Now I have another item on my list of food to feed my boy.
